Day 2 Recap: 2021 OISL Tournament

The 2021 OISL Tournament continued Sunday, as teams competed in their second of three group stage games at the Papillion Landing House Field in Omaha, Nebraska. It was a must-win situation for many of the teams looking to advance to this weekend’s games.

“It is a comeback year,” said the Kenyan captain. “We are not being disqualified by a goal difference like last year.”

With the teams having completed their second games, the stage is set for crucial games on Saturday, as they play their final group stage games to solidify the group standings. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals.

Highlights from Sunday’s matches…

Honduras vs Kenya
Kenya earned a 14-0 victory over Honduras, earning them the number one spot on this year’s league table. After losing to Nigeria last year by a goal difference and being disqualified from the quarter finals, Kenya says they are here to win.
Abdihakim found the back of the net scoring 3 goals, Mumin, Junior, Nurani and Gawo 2 goals each and Abdikadir (Dadire), Mohamed and Anis each scored a goal for Kenya.

Burkina Faso vs El Salvador
In a back and forth game, Burkina Faso defeated the defending champions, El Salvador, 2-1.
Becken scored a goal for El Salvador.
Pacome Ilbouodo and Iman Liady found the back of the net to score two goals for Burkina Faso.

Somalia vs Nigeria
In a matchup of African sides, the veterans Nigeria defeated Somalia, 4-2.
Najib and Julian found the back of the net to score two goals for Somalia.
Usman Olalekan scored 2 goals while Nakata and Farra each scored a goal for Nigeria.

Ivory Coast vs South Sudan
South Sudan earned a 4-1 victory over Ivory Coast.
Taban Jock scored 3 goals while Kimango Lual scored a goal for South Sudan.
