It wasn't easy for the chicken chain to get here. Massachusetts boasts more than a dozen Chick-fil-A restaurants, but Boston has resisted for years.

When the chain said it was considering a Freedom Trail location in 2012, late mayor Thomas Menino criticized it. Menino made it clear he didn't want a gay marriage-opposing
