There’s a New Way to Snag a Free Southwest Companion Pass
Southwest Airlines' companion pass is one of the best travel deals, and now you can acquire one by establishing a new credit card.
According to Travel + Leisure, Chase customers who open a Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card this week
will receive a companion pass valid through Feb. 28, 2024. The promotion is for passengers who sign up before March 13.
New cardholders get 30,000 non-expiring Rapid Rewards points and a companion pass. The perks begin once clients spend $4,000 on card purchases
The offer applies to Southwest Plus, Premier, and Priority Rapid Rewards cards. Each card has a separate annual charge.
Southwest's companion pass lets customers invite one friend to fly for free. The companion must pay taxes and fees, starting at $5.60 one-way.
In addition to the credit card offer, travelers can obtain a companion pass by traveling 100 one-way flights or collecting 135,000 points in a year.
Southwest is still recovering from its Christmas week debacle, which canceled thousands of flights and required an apology.
According to The Associated Press, the Department of Transportation is investigating whether the airline intentionally planned more flights than its system could handle.
